OMRON Acquires Science Based Targets Initiative Certification

Based on the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets set in its long-term vision, Shaping the Future 2030 (SF2030), OMRON paves the way for achieving the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius advocated by the Paris Agreement.

In May 2022, OMRON Corporation (HQ: Shimogyo-Ku, Kyoto; President and CEO: Yoshihito Yamada; hereinafter, "OMRON") acquired a certification from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)* for the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets set in its long-term vision, Shaping the Future 2030 (SF2030). This certification recognizes these GHG reduction targets as science-based targets to achieve the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius advocated by the Paris Agreement.

OMRON identified key sustainability initiatives in the SF2030 Long-Term Vision that began in April 2022, for the first time as part of its long-term vision. The SF2030 engages in the five key initiatives to realize the OMRON Group Vision. One key initiative strives to achieve decarbonization and lower environmental impact. Therein, OMRON will work to fulfill its social responsibilities and further enhance its competitiveness as a company recognizing the risks and opportunities brought by climate change in accordance with the OMRON Environmental Policy.

The GHG emissions reduction targets certified by the SBTi are intended to implement an initiative to reduce GHG emissions throughout the value chain under the SF2030, using measures outlined by the OMRON Environmental Policy, which include providing products and services that contribute to decarbonization, improving energy usage efficiency, and expanding the use of renewable energy.

The GHG emissions reduction targets OMRON set in the SF2030 are as follows:

Key InitiativesFiscal 2030 Target (Base Year: Fiscal 2016)
Direct GHG emissions from the company (Scopes 1 and 2)65% reduction by fiscal 2030
GHG emissions from the use of products sold by the company (Scope 3: Category 11)18% reduction by fiscal 2030

OMRON will endeavor toward decarbonization and a lower environmental impact throughout the entire value chain in an effort to not only resolve the environmental challenges faced by customers and society as well as contribute to a more sustainable society but also enhance corporate value.

*The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is an international initiative that encourages science-based medium- to long-term greenhouse gas reductions targets.
